2025 fencing world championship title

Local Fairfax County high school student

On this week’s Spotlight on Education, Roxanne Strouk visits 2025 Cadet Men’s Épée World Champion fencer Nathaniel Wimmer, who is only 16 years old!

Nathaniel began fencing at just six years old alongside his older brothers and worked his way up through the sport to become a title holder. He is only the fourth American to win this prestigious title and shares the incredible experience of competing in the championships and winning. He recounts how rewarding the victory felt for all the hard work he, his supportive coach, and family put into the sport. His coach, Aymen Fayez, reflects on how special the moment was, especially since he once won the same title himself.
