Meera Desai, EFA VA
Duke University, Class of 2029
At EFA, I learned far more than just how to fence—I learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship. The lessons I’ve learned here have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person, and have carried over into every area of my life. Fencing at Elite has not only taught me how to handle challenges on the strip but also how to stay focused and push through adversity, both in sports and in life.
The coaches at Elite are truly exceptional. From the moment I joined, I always felt supported, encouraged, and valued—both as a fencer and as an individual. Coach Ayman, whom I’ve worked with since Y12, has been a constant source of guidance and inspiration. His coaching has pushed me to think critically about every bout, to trust myself, and to continually strive for improvement. The skills I’ve developed under his mentorship have not only made me a better fencer but have shaped me into a more confident and thoughtful person.
I am so incredibly grateful to my EFA family. Their unwavering support has been a key part of my growth and my love for fencing, and they’ve helped me become the best version of myself. The support of coaches and peers played an invaluable role in my recruitment to the Duke University Class of 2029.
